Restructure of Defence Children Services (DCS)

Following the separation of the policy and delivery elements of the Directorate of Children and Young People. Here are the details of Defence Children Services (DCS).

DCS has been established to:

* Deliver education and care for Service and Entitled children in DCS schools and settings.
* Provide expert advice and guidance for Service and Entitled personnel regarding education and care in the United Kingdom and overseas.
* Provide professional advice, intervention and challenge to support education and care in DCS schools and settings, and other commissioned locations.
* Provide guidance, intervention and supervision to safeguard children in DCS schools and settings, and other commissioned locations.
* Provide professional oversight of MOD contracts, licences and policies related to the delivery of education, care and safeguarding of children in DCS schools and settings, and other commissioned locations.

DCS is divided into three services and has two additional enabling teams.

DCS Schools and Settings Service are responsible for the provision of high-quality education and care in MOD funded schools and nursery settings on overseas bases (where Service personnel have accompanied postings) and at QVS in Scotland.

DCS Schools Interface Service are responsible for the provision of a range of enabling services who act as the interface between DCS schools and settings and the Army and Strategic Command –covering aspects such as Infrastructure, Health and Safety, Information Management (including pupil data), ICT, HR, Finance and Asset Management.

DCS Specialist Support Services are responsible for the provision of specialist interventions for Service children to support and inform their education, care, safeguarding, health and wellbeing; and to evaluate overseas supportability for families with children with Special Education Needs; oversee elective home education for families posted overseas and provide advice and guidance for Service families in the UK.

DCS is enabled and assured by the DCS Executive team and retains a focus on the future through the DCS Projects team.

The department formerly known as CEAS is dividing into two teams – the Education Advisory Team (UK) and the Overseas Education and Supportability Team. At this time, the experience for Service Personnel will remain unchanged, with all communications going in the first instance to the CEAS mailbox (as detailed in the JSPs and DIN). Service Personnel and Entitled Civilians requiring advice or guidance should email in the normal way and DCS will allocate the appropriate Parent Partnership Officer or Team Adviser.
