Paderborn Road Closure Update

From Monday, February 28th, the Bahnhofstrasse in the area between Frankfurter Weg and Pontanusstrasse will be closed for about 12 months.

The complete closure is necessary in order to be able to connect the new bridge to Bahnhofstrasse and to be able to safely carry out the canal and road construction work between the bridge and Pontanusstrasse.

During this closure, the junction of Bahnhofstrasse and Pontanusstrasse will be closed from February 28, 2022 to probably April 22, 2022, as sewer and road construction work will begin here.

Mayor Michael Dreier asks all citizens for their understanding of the restrictions caused by the closure.

"The new construction of the bridge is an important and necessary construction measure to create a safe and sustainable connection from Frankfurter Weg to the city center. We are aware that this is initially associated with impairments for many road users," says Dreier.

For this reason, the city of Paderborn has done everything possible to keep the restrictions as low as possible.

"I am very happy that we were able to reduce the total closure from the planned three years to 12 months," said the mayor. For the time of the closure, Michael Dreier asks citizens to use the signposted detour routes.

The following diversions into the city center will apply from Monday, February 28:

Motor vehicle traffic:
The detour for motor vehicles takes place via the Heinz-Nixdorf-Ring, the Neuhäuser Straße and the Rathenaustraße in the direction of the station/Neuhäuser Tor. The routes via the B64 and the Frankfurter Weg as well as the Borchener Straße in the direction of the Western Gate also lead to the city centre. The diversions are signposted accordingly.

Bicycle traffic:

Bicycle traffic is initially diverted northwards via the cycle path on Heinz-Nixdorf-Ring via Damaschkestrasse, Anton-Heinen-Strasse, Karl-Sonnenschein-Strasse and Klöcknerstrasse in the direction of the city centre. As soon as the roadblock at the Bahnhofstraße/Pontanusstraße junction is lifted, cyclists can also use Pontanusstraße from Anton-Heinen-Straße. To the south, the city center is reached from Frankfurter Weg via Wollmarktstrasse and Borchener Strasse. The diversions are signposted accordingly.

Public transport:
Bus traffic will be diverted via Klöcknerstrasse and Pontanusstrasse. These streets will become one-way streets to allow bus traffic to be safely routed down these streets and streetside parking to remain available for residents. Klöcknerstraße can only be used in the direction of Riemekestraße and Pontanusstraße only in the direction of Bahnhofstraße. During the time when the junction between Bahnhofstrasse and Pontanusstrasse is closed, bus traffic will be diverted to Rathenaustrasse as an alternative.

Due to the closure, there will be timetable changes for both the PaderSprinter and the BVO. Passengers can find out about the current timetables at padersprinter.de or at ostwestfalen-lippe-bus.de/fahrplandownload.
