Some Ideas for Visiting Germany's UNESCO Sites

The German National Tourist Board has shared handy information and ideas for which of Germany's 51 UNESCO sites are must see attractions in 2023.

100 years Bauhaus in Weimar
Weimar owes its reputation as a town of culture, art and the Modernity to many famous personalities: the German Classicism poets Goethe and Schiller, the classical composers Johann Sebastian Bach and Franz Liszt, but also the avant-gardists of the Bauhaus.

In 2023, the focus will be on the latter: the modern design pioneers presented their ideas to the public for the first time at a Bauhaus exhibition 100 years ago.

8 UNESCO Sites in Trier

The oldest city in Germany, Trier, holds eight UNESCO Sites alone and is packed with Roman monuments. Bamberg, Germany's beer Mecca, celebrates its 30th year as a UNESCO protected site and Weimar looks back on 100 years since its first ever Bauhaus exhibition.

Berlin's Museum Island

One of Berlin's three UNESCO treasures is the Museum Island, an outstanding ensemble of five world-renowned museums.

The Old National Gallery is one of them and displays Casper David Friedrich's masterpieces.

His landscape paintings are an iconic symbol for German Romanticism and invite you to escape into Germany's beautiful nature. Germany will celebrate the artist's 250th birthday next year.
