Gamescom is the world’s largest trade fair event for entertainment, computer and video games, with up to 370,000 people gathering at the exhibition halls in Cologne on a weekend in August every year to immerse themselves in virtual worlds and test the latest games before they are released. About 1150 exhibitors offer pure entertainment in several subject-specific segments, from exclusive trial game areas and live shows to international e-sport events, where the big names in the scene compete in digital games.
Absolute hot spots on the premises include two areas that couldn’t be any more different. The Cosplay Village for costume fans and friends of Japanese pop culture gives visitors the opportunity to meet popular characters from the gaming industry, film, and television, as well as the manga and comic worlds. They are portrayed by fans with a great passion for crafts and acting.
PacMan, Bomberman, Super Mario, and their friends are already waiting for you in the retro gaming area, where pixels are jumping around on historical tube screens. Clubs dedicated to classical games have unpacked console milestones such as the first PlayStation, the Sega Megadrive, and the Super Nintendo.
Gamescom was first held in 2009 and has grown steadily since. As a hybrid format, the event aims to engage even more fans of video games.
