"Mainfest" 5th - 8th August , Frankfurt

Funfairs, fireworks and food. The anual celebration of the Main river in Frankfurt kicks off on the 5th August.

Traditionally, the Main is recognized as the city's important lifeline these days. When the Epiphany Church on the southern bank of the Main was consecrated on July 23, 1340, the Main fishermen celebrated and thanked “their” river.

With wine from the fountain of justice, "ox on a skewer" and popular amusements such as plucking gooses, fishing for ducks and jousting, it was an event for the entire population.

And some customs have survived to this day, because the Mainfest is opened with wine from the Justice Fountain.

The “fishing joust” will also take place again. In this lance tournament on the Main, the participants try to push each other out of the boats, which the audience always follows with excitement and enthusiasm.

The crowning glory of the Main Festival is the fireworks display on Monday evening.

Thousands of guests line the banks of the Main and the bridges when the sky spectacle of superlatives sprays its sparks over the water, accompanied by numerous boats that are decorated with lanterns and bathe the Main in a romantic light.
