The Christmas pyramid as a new eye-catcher on Jahnplatz, the ice rink with curling on Klosterplatz, the “House of St. Nicholas” in the old town church park and the hut village on the historic Old Market make the Bielefeld Christmas market the number one visitor magnet in the region.
Across the entire city center, more than 110 lovingly decorated houses give the city a pre-Christmas magic.
The largest pyramid in NRW
With a height of more than 22 meters, the Christmas pyramid on Jahnplatz is one of the largest in all of Germany and is the largest in NRW. The new highlight makes the center of the city center shine. The multi-story, walk-in pyramid offers restaurants and invites you to linger. It is made of wood and decorated with angels, nativity figures and wings.
The Christmas market organized by Bielefeld Marketing runs from November 23rd to December 30th and takes a break on November 26th (Sunday of the Dead) and the Christmas holidays from December 24th to 26th. Since the Advent season is very short this year, Bielefeld Marketing is extending the event days at the showmen's request and starting the Christmas market before Dead Sunday.
In the Protestant Church, Dead Sunday is an important holiday, which is why discussions were held with the church in advance. The first three days (November 23rd to 25th) are celebrated “quietly” and the Christmas market remains closed on Dead Sunday itself.
The official opening ceremony will not take place on the Old Market until Monday, November 27, 2023.
Bielefeld Marketing is putting together an atmospheric program for the opening. Appointments for group ice skating, curling and Christmas parties in the Bergschänke on Klosterplatz can already be booked online.
On the third Sunday of Advent, December 17, 2023, there will be the opportunity to get gifts for your loved ones in downtown Bielefeld. The shops open for Sunday shopping from 1 p.m. to 6 p.m.
The Christmas market program will appear at the beginning of November.
