The French organizer Culturespaces has specialized in immersive exhibitions. With its technically highly equipped adventure worlds, it shows the flag internationally. The Culturespaces German premiere in Dortmund's Phoenix-West steelworks is themed "Gustav Klimt, gold in motion".

The Austrian painter Gustav Klimt (1862–1918) is one of the most important and popular artists of the fin de siècle. Until now, a visit to the Viennese museums was unavoidable in order to immerse oneself in the richly ornamented imagery of the Art Nouveau master.

Anyone who is satisfied with, or even prefers, a sophisticated technical reconstruction of Klimt's art should plan a trip to Dortmund instead of Vienna. An elaborate multimedia presentation has been set up in the former steelworks in Phoenix-West, which not only visualizes Viennese art around 1900.

The eco-artist Friedensreich Hundertwasser (1928-2000) also plays an important role. In addition, visitors can follow the traces of light particles on a "journey". "Art Comes to Life"

Big, don’t mess, this is the motto of “Phoenix des Lumières”, as the spectacle is titled, with a veritable battle of materials: 110 video projectors project several hundred paintings by Klimt and other artists, such as Egon Schiele, onto the 13-metre-high walls; In addition, 28 loudspeakers and ten subwoofers ensure that the encounter with the silent images is also an impressive sound experience.

Six "sequences" open up Gustav Klimt's world. For example, the Kunsthistorisches Museum in Vienna and the Burgtheater there – at the end of the 19th century, the “artist company” to which Klimt belonged decorated these buildings with ceiling paintings.

Another "sequence" focuses on the exhibition building of the Vienna Secession, for which Klimt created his "Beethoven Frieze". He enriched paintings like “The Kiss”, “Danaë” or “Portrait of Adele Bloch Bauer I” with gold leaf.

A separate "sequence" is dedicated to this technique, which gives the works the preciousness of an icon. Klimt's images of women and his understanding of nature are also dealt with in detail. Bruno Monnier, the founder of Culturespaces, hopes that his Klimt homage "will develop a charisma that reaches far beyond the Ruhr area".
