Clearing Leaves ASP Paderborn Director Explains You Responsibilities

For UK families in Sennelager. Waste and garden maintenance rules can seem confusing at first.

Dr. Dietmar Regener, operations manager at ASP explains what householder responsibilities are now the leaf fall has started.

Citizens are responsible for clearing leaves from the sidewalks in front of their properties. As in most municipalities in the Federal Republic, the city of Paderborn has delegated the cleaning of most sidewalks to the residents.

The city's bylaws require them to clean the sidewalk regularly and also perform winter maintenance.

Dr. Regener, explains: “Fallen leaves and fruit on the sidewalks should be swept up promptly, regardless of whether they are leaves from city trees or from our own trees.

The leaves must not simply be swept from the sidewalk into the gutter, as this will clog the street drains and prevent rain from draining away quickly enough. In other public areas, especially on streets and paths, the ASP ensures that the leaves are removed.”

The leaves can simply remain in the garden. It protects the soil over the winter and provides winter quarters for insects and small animals. Heaps of leaves in particular become a protective refuge for hedgehogs etc. in the cold season.

If you want to dispose of the leaves, you can do so via the compost, the organic

waste bin or one of the recycling centers in the city. Leaves up to 1 cubic meter can be dropped off here conveniently and free of charge.

The “An der Talle” recycling center is open Monday to Friday from 7 a.m. to 6:30 p.m.

The “Driburger Straße” recycling center is open every afternoon from 12:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m.

Both open on Saturdays from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m.
