Fathers Day / Vatertag 29th May
The annual celebrations of hand carts filled with Beer is here. German Fathers day is a different celebration than the traditional UK card for Dad.
On Vatertag it is popular for groups of men to parade through towns with a handcart loaded with beer and snacks. These hikes are often cheerful and loud, with a focus on community and celebration.
Warning from Paderborn Authorities
"No public BBQ's in municipal spaces in Paderborn. Please remember that setting a bonfire or use of a BBQ outside of public property is not currently permitted in Stadt Paderborn.
This is due to the drought conditions. Which are expected to last all summer. Currently the risk of fire is very high.
Fines will be issued for the use of BBQ's and failure to clear your rubbish from public municipal spaces."
Salzkotten Bierfest 28th - 30th May
The first city Bier festival "Prost & Brucke" in the Franz-Kleine-Park . Salzkotten is about an 18 min drive from Sennelager.Salzkotten has been updating the city park. A Bierfest and celebrations will mark the opening.
The event starts on Wednesday evening. With an after-work party starting at 18.00 featuring a live band and tapped beer.
On May 29th, the festival begins at 11 a.m. with traditional brass music from Salzkotten's music clubs. Towards the evening, a DJ takes over and provides the perfect sounds until 10 p.m.
The party starts in Bielefeld on Wednesday evening and continues through the weekend. On six different stages the Bielefeld "party mile" extends from the Jahnplatz across the city.
200 artists will perform including some of the most well known German bands. from Folk to funk, Rock to pop. The festival includes some fairground rides and food stalls. Stadt advice is to use public transport to reach Bielefeld and the park & ride sites if using a car.
There are two events in the city of Marburg this week.
A 2 hour drive south of Sennelager. Marburg is positioned along a river north of Frankfurt. This famous university city has a very picturesque old town which survived WWII with minor damage. Plus an imposing castle which sits above the city.
Marburg 31st May - A very special historic tour in the city will raise funds for a local child Helena aged 6 in need of medical support.
The Marburg tourism office has hired an restored 1950's Mercedes bus to tour the city. A uniformed driver and attendant will take you to all the sites of the city.
Organisers have promised to make it a very unique day. Tickets are 20 Euro for Adults and 15 Euro for children. Book tickets here.
At the same time you can visit the Marburg Harbour festival. This much loved family fair and market held in the city each year offers markets and a funfair.
Schloss Neuhaus Schutzenfest 30th May - 2nd June
The local companies make up one of the largest shooting clubs in Germany with 2,500 members.
Shooting competitions will be held throughout the weekend.
You can enjoy the marches on Friday night with the Hatzfelder company forming up near the Loeseke community centre.
Saturday evening from 18:30 will be a full ceremony and Tattoo at the Schloss.
Sunday will see the grand festival march with a concert of the bands in the evening at the Schloss music hall.
Monday evening concludes the festivities with Fireworks and a laser show from 19:00.
