Paderborn Family Hiking Day

On Sunday, May 5, 2024 The City of Paderborn is organizing the fourteenth family hiking day together with the Eggegebirgsverein.

From 9.30 a.m. all Paderborn families are invited to come to the town hall square. Prior registration is not necessary. 

The approximately seven kilometer long hike starts at 10 a.m. at the historic town hall and leads over the Pader spring area and the Schützenhof to the “Merschweg” water playground in Neuhaus Castle. 

Along the way, small and large tasks await the participating families at five children's playgrounds.

From 1 p.m. there will be a final round-up for all participants at the water playground in Schloß Neuhaus with a free snack for well-deserved refreshment at the “House of the Guilds”. 

There will also be a raffle at the end for all the children who hiked with us. What might the prize be?

All Paderborn families are warmly invited to join in the hike. Further information can be found at familienservicecenter.de.

The days are getting shorter, the weather is becoming more unstable. Rain, aquaplaning, wet leaves, fog, wind, snow and black ice are a real challenge for drivers almost every day in autumn and winter. Important: Adjust the vehicle and driving style to the adverse weather conditions in good time. 

QUICK REMINDER OF GERMAN AND SFA REGULATIONS

MAINTENANCE OF OUTSIDE AREAS

All occupants are reminded that gardens, paths, driveways, hedges and immediate outside areas must be kept in a clean, tidy and weed free condition, i.e., grass, shrubs and hedges are to be cut or trimmed and disposed of as necessary to maintain a respectable appearance. Occupants should check with their Estate Manager to ensure that they comply with local rules governing garden maintenance times and disposal. Tasks outside the normal responsibility of the occupant, e.g., tree husbandry, hedges over 1.8m in height at March-In, should be referred through your Estate Manager/Housing Officer DIORDOSTrg-GerHousSennelager@mod.gov.uk.Compost heaps of a reasonable size are acceptable, they must be removed on vacation.

Pathways, driveways, gardens, road gutters, pavements, from your front door to the middle of the road are the occupants’ responsibility, also in front of your garage if allocated. These must be weeded, kept clear of any debris, rubbish, and in winter free of snow and ice. Rubbish is not to be swept into drains, as they are easily blocked.

In accordance with German Law, occupants may be subject to a fine imposed by Federal Police if local regulations are not adhered to i.e., clearing pathways in winter etc. 

Estate Managers may also raise charges on vacation if grounds/gardens/hedges have not been maintained to a satisfactory standard.

Wochenmarkt This Weekend

The regular weekend market in Paderborn is cancelled this weekend as the city hosts Libori. 

Do not worry, you can still find local markets providing fresh fruit and veg this weekend.

"Drive-In Market" in Elsen (13 mins - Route Map) Friday 7am - 1pm

It's not big, but you can park your car for a short while directly behind the market stalls. "Shop and wech", as the Paderborner says.

The ideal market for everyone who doesn't want to do without products from the market but doesn't have that much time to shop.

The weekly market takes place every Friday from 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the parking area at the Von-Ketteler-Straße sports field.

New on the market you will find Strauss-Hof with a selection of mushrooms from their own production, butcher Müller and the Almetaler Ölmühle with cold-pressed oils.

Sennestadt  In Bielefeld (30 mins - Route Map) Saturday 7am - 1 pm

the Sennestadt market has a good range of fruit, vegetables, fish, meat and regional products.

SchöneFerienTicket NRW 2023

Summer holidays are nearly here. From the 22nd June young people aged between 6- 20 can purchase the SchöneFerienTicket NRW ticket. It provides nearly two months unlimted local transport travel for €64.

Tickets can be purchased from Padersprinter ticket machines, direct from the busses and the paderborn travel centre. 

This promotion is aimed at younger people who want to make journies only in NRW during the summer. This is the difference from the €49 Deutschland ticket, which is valid across germany.

Parking in Paderborn is Changing : New App & Sign System

You might be used to seeing notice boards with the number of available parking spaces in most cities. 

Paderborn is taking parking information to the next level. From now on you will find more boards arriving that show live maps with your location.

Around the main roads large maps will now show live parking availability in all of the cities spaces. 

As you get closer to actual parking you will see more detailed local area signs. 

Deutschland Ticket 2023 Via PaderSprinter Website

Very soon you will be able to purchase the latest low cost ticket for travel in Germany. Expected to go on sale at €49 per month.

The ticket is expected to cover local train, tram and bus services across the the German states.

Interested passengers and all citizens can now register online on the PaderSprinter homepage and thus secure their Germany ticket, which is expected to start on May 1st, 2023.
